POS

Point of sale The point of sale (POS) or point of purchase (POP) is the time and place where a retail transaction is completed. At the point of sale, the merchant calculates the amount owed by the customer, indicates that amount, may prepare an invoice for the customer (which may be a cash register printout), and indicates the options for the customer to make payment. It is also the point at which a customer makes a payment to the merchant in exchange for goods or after provision of a service. After receiving payment, the merchant may issue a receipt for the transaction, which is usually printed but can also be dispensed with or sent electronically. See, EPOS and UPOS

UnifiedPOS or UPOS is a world wide vendor- and retailer-driven Open Standard's initiative under the National Retail Federation, Association of Retail Technology Standards (NRF-ARTS) to provide vendor-neutral software application interfaces (APIs) for numerous (as of 2011, thirty-six) point of sale (POS) peripherals (POS printer, cash drawer, magnetic stripe reader, bar code scanner, line displays, and so on).

UUID

Universally unique identifier. Previously used for 'machine ID'.

eXtensions for Financial Services Standard API framework used by, for example, banks. J/XFS for Java. Generic device API. The generic API in Connect on-Device. The abstraction layer for porting between different machines. A J/XFS server loads the drivers (against the HW). One service per driver.
